How to Use the Joint Statement

The joint statement on “Fixing America’s Economy” was shared with the McCain and Obama presidential campaigns before the formal launch of the Coalition on October 2. We are in the process of transmitting a copy to each member of the US Senate and House of Representatives. Each of them will be asked to commit their support for the five objectives outlined in the document.

Secure in the knowledge that you are in the company of scores of like-minded organizations, companies and individuals, each of you should feel free to use the joint statement by :

• Contacting your elected representatives to request their commitment;
• Keeping copies handy to present to any candidate campaigning door-to--door;
• Making copies for your neighbors to use in the same way;
• E-mailing copies to your friends and neighbors;
• Raising the issue at town hall meetings and other campaign events, distributing copies;
• E-mail a copy to any candidate you have been supporting (or who have been seeking your support), requesting their commitment; or
• Writing a letter to the editor of the local newspaper.

Be creative -- find your own best way of approaching candidates.

Be persistent – don’t accept vague or hedged statements of support.

Share the results – with your friends and colleagues
